تزخر الدراسات التي تتوقع موعداً تقريبياً للوفاة استناداً إلى عدد من الفحوصات أو مراقبة نمط الحياة على فترة زمنية، غير أن هذه الدراسة توصلت إلى توقع الوقت الذي يستطيع جسدك على الصمود خلاله، وذلك بتمرين منزلي بسيط.
وبحسب صحيفة دايلي ميل البريطانية، خلصت مجموعة فيزيائيين برازيلييين إلى هذه النتيجة بعد إخضاع مجموعة رياضيين لاختبار "جلوس وقيام"، بهدف قياس مرونة عضلاتهم وقوتها، ووضعوا نظام تسجيل للاختبار.
ووجد الباحثون من جامعة ريو دي جينيرو أن الأشخاص الذين يسجلون 3 نقاط أو أقل من 10، ترتفع احتمالات أن تصاب أجسادهم بالوهن، وبالتالي ترتفع احتمالات الوفاة، في غضون 6 سنوات بمعدل أكبر 5 أضعاف من الأشخاص الذين يسجلون أكثر من 8 نقاط في ذلك الاختبار.
ولفتت الصحيفة إلى أن الهدف من الدراسة لم يكن التوصل لآلية من أجل التنبؤ بموعد الوفاة، بل قياس مرونة الرياضيين، ولكنه يستخدم الآن من أجل إقناع المرضى بضرورة ممارسة الرياضة للتمتع بعمر أطول.
